In keeping with the
University's commitment to environmental stewardship, a
campus-wide program for voluntary paper recycling exists.
It is estimated that 75
percent to 90 percent of the contents of most waste baskets
is recyclable and in an effort to do so the program consists
of the following:
-
Containers are placed
near each waste basket for recyclable paper. Most of the
paper that crosses our desks is recyclable with a few
exceptions. Exact details follow.
-
As each container is
filled, it is the responsibility of each person to
transport the accumulated paper to larger containers
that are marked with the recycling logo. These large
containers are distributed throughout each building.
-
These large
containers are emptied periodically by Facility Services
staff.
Besides saving landfill
space, the University can save the expense of hauling and
dumping trash (about $75/ton) and will actually receive a
payment for the recycled paper.
If you have any
questions, contact the Safety Department.
